1. Lacto-vegetarian Diet

This diet rules out a variety of food such as red and white meat, eggs, poultry, and fish, but not dairy products. Lacto-vegetarians still consume dairy products like butter, milk, cheese, yogurt, ice-cream and so on.

2. Lacto-ovo-pesco Vegetarian Diet

This diet is similar to Lacto-vegetarian diet, with an addition of eggs and fish. It has been a debate on whether this type of diet is still vegetarian because people adopting this still consumes fish and animal-based foods. Whichever side of the fence you are on, this diet is definitely a great one if you are looking for an intermediary regime before jumping into a strict one.

3. Pescetarian Diet

The Pescetarian diet is yet another that sits on the fence. This diet isn’t vegetarian in its purest form because it allows the consumption of seafood. There are also different versions within this diet as some Pescetarians consume dairy products in addition to the above.

4. Ovo-vegetarian Diet

In the case of the Ovo-vegetarian diet, meat, poultry, seafood, and dairy products are off-limits. However, in order to ensure sufficient protein intake, consumption of eggs are allowed.

5. Vegan

Many have coined this diet as the ultimate form of vegetarianism. Vegans only consume plant-based foods. Any form of meat and animal products are strictly prohibited. Veganism is more than just a diet, read our previous article for a better understanding of what veganism is.
