SPCA Pet Care Programme
Caring For Our Pets The Right Way
By Wy Yee Chan
Feeding cooked bones to pets is a common practice in Malaysia, as many of us feel that our domestic pets generally eat bones and leftover food. However, do you know that we should never feed our pets (cats and dogs alike) cooked bones, onions, chocolates, bread and dough? Those foods can expose them to health hazards that can cause splinters and gastrointestinal damages. And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the misconceptions of pet care.
Thankfully for us, ‘The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (SPCA) realises this and has launched a Pet Care Programme to aid all pet lovers out there by providing us with proper guidance to care for our animals. The SPCA is an animal welfare organisation, aimed to protect defenseless animals and to alleviate their sufferings. There are countless problems with pet care but this programme will help shed light to curb this problem at its roots. Among the things that we will learn are; to understand animals better, to learn about the tips and tricks in helping them to be happy emotionally, finding the right diet for them, understanding pet language and finally, learning how to bond with them.
As a graduate of this programme, one can volunteer at SPCA and also get warm and cosy with all the adorable cats and dogs there. To join, all you need to do is to just make a small contribution to the SPCA foundation. It is RM60 for juniors up to 12 years old, RM80 for students and RM120 for working adults. Once you have attended the 4-hour programme, you will be better equipped with the knowledge and skills to care for these furry animals. So, what are you waiting for, go to SPCA and register today!
